Overview
Aside from the distance factor, there are three situations in which these full day sessions are appropriate. There may be a fast-approaching deadline, the timing of which is out of the client’s control, e.g. when a personal commitment must be made, when an interview for an important job is suddenly scheduled, or when a partnership decision must be made. The second situation involves a) readiness to make a decision and b) particular known factors getting in the way. If a client has all the necessary information, yet needs to work on some tough psychological issues involving the decision, the intensive meeting scenario can be useful in breaking the logjam. Third, it may be obvious that work needs to be done over time. In these cases our work is introductory, and provides the basis of a working relationship that may continue over the following weeks, from a distance.
Time Frame
Typically, we meet for a morning, then resume for the afternoon. People’s needs for time and tolerance for work varies. There is no right or wrong approach, only optimal work on the problems.
The Process
How the time is used varies with the situation. Sometimes we need to go over particular resource material; other times the work is purely evaluative; and sometimes it is quite psychological, focusing on the nature of the relationship and the personalities of the people involved. Depending on circumstances, we may have to work more or less intensively, or to a specific purpose.
The particulars of the process are the same as my In-Person Consulting. The only important difference is that it is most helpful if the client comes with essentially all the materials and documentation they can find.
Costs
A full day session (8 hours) is $1,000, travel and accommodations not included. A two-day session is $1750. The fee may be adjusted on a pro-rated basis, according to the actual amount of time spent with you.
Accomodations
There are a large number of hotels, motels, and bed and breakfast accommodations available within walking distance or a brief subway ride from my Kenmore Square office in Boston. I have agreements with some to provide lodging at a reduced rate. The situation is similar concerning my other office, just west of Boston.
On Site SessionsYour Location
Occasionally corporate or individual clients choose to meet at their own, out of town locations. This can be for specific business reasons, or with individuals because the situation has certain unique aspects.
The work we do in this format is similar to that described above. The obvious difference is that we have the option of observing clients' actual situations first hand. In selected cases there is no substitute for this.
The standard rate for onsite consulting is $2,000 per day.
Please contact me for other rates, such as for associated seminars and workshops.
